About Me
My name is Sam Seltzer, and I graduated from Scarsdale High School in 2018. I began playing hockey when I was in first grade during 6:00am practices led by Coach Pete Caputo on the Studio Rink at Rye Playland. After learning to skate, I decided to try playing goalie and had a newfound love for the position and the sport. I have so many memories of playing goalie for Scarsdale Youth Hockey Association (SYHA) such as winning SilverSticks, Hudson Valley, and numerous other tournaments with my teammates. After aging out of SYHA, I played for Coach Mullen on the Scarsdale Modified team, then I played four years of varsity hockey for Scarsdale High School. Now in college, I am a member of the Cornell University ACHA Division 1 Club Hockey Team.
Since I was five years old, some my closest friends have been fellow Scarsdale hockey players. The snowy days when my teammates and I spent hours on the frozen lake or backyard rinks simply enjoying the game of hockey are ones that I will never forget. I was lucky enough to go to the NY State High School Final Four as a freshman. While we were unable to win it all, the spirit, camaraderie, and support the fans provided was unforgettable. There is no better feeling than stepping onto the ice with a few thousand friends and family cheering in the stands. I treasure being coached and mentored by Coach Jim Manusco during his final years at Scarsdale High School. During my Junior and Senior years of high school I served as Captain, and while we were unable to win the Section, winning so many games as heavy underdogs is what made those seasons so memorable. I capped off my youth hockey career in March 2018 by winning the U-18 New York States Championships with my travel hockey team.
Being a part of of SYHA has greatly influenced my life and made me who I am today. I can’t imagine the person I would be without the players, parents, coaches, and mentors of SYHA.
I am proud to be raising money for SYHA to keep the traditions alive and allow anyone a chance to learn to play hockey. I have been a Rangers fan since I started playing hockey and have been fortunate enough to attend games, playoffs, camps, and their incredible run of success. Having the opportunity to make saves against Rangers’ legends will be an unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever.
Please consider making a donation or coming to the event on January 27th. It will be a great day for hockey and SYHA.
